An IQ of 135 clears the most famous line on the scale. In the United States, about 3.3 million people score at this level or above. US schools often use roughly this level when they say gifted, though there's no single national rule.

Now the honest caveats. Research on gifted groups finds people selected around this level did very well on average — but it shows no proven cliff between this range and scores just below it. The line at 130 is a convention, not a discovery.
